Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 22 (ANI): All educational institutions and Anganwadis in Shimla and Mandi have been declared holiday on August 23 and 24 owing to a 'Red' alert issued for heavy rain.

In a letter dated August 22, 2023, the Office of Deputy Commissioner, Shimla issued a notice stating that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert till August 23, 08:00 am and an Orange alert for two days on August 23 and 24. In view of the prediction of heavy rainfall by IMD, the movement of staff, school children, trainees, etc. may not be safe and therefore needs to be restricted.

Aditya Negi Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority Shimla said, "All the Government, Private educational institutions, University, College, Schools, and Vocational training centre, Anganwari shall remain closed for 2 days i.e. on August 23 and 24. The Heads of these institutions shall ensure strict compliance with the above-said orders being the same as a matter of public safety.

In Mandi, too holiday has been declared on August 23 and 24. The Office of Deputy Commissioner, Mandi stated that whereas, IMD Shimla issued Orange alert on August 22 to 25, of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Further frequent landslide incidents and blockage on many roads have been reported by the concerned departments from various parts of the district. Under such circumstances, the movement of staff, school, college children, Trainees etc, may not be safe and required to be restricted.

Arindam Chaudhary Chairman-cum-Deputy Commissioner said that all the Government educational institutions, Private educational institutions, Vocational training centres, and Anganwadi centres shall remain closed on August 23 and 24.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday reached the State Emergency Operation Center located at the Secretariat to review the situation in view of the two-day red alert warning in seven districts by the Meteorological Department.

Earlier on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), forecasting heavy rains on August 23 and August 24, issued a red alert for Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, and Uddham Singh Nagar districts. (ANI)
