Tiruvallur (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 13 (ANI): The Southern Railways said that train traffic on mainline was resumed in record time after the Kavaraipettai train accident with the down (DN) line restored, railway officials said on Sunday.

According to Southern Railways, the down-line track was restored and a train passed through the accident site on Sunday morning.

At least 19 people were left injured after 12-13 coaches of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed after ramming into a stationary goods train on October 11 in Tamil Nadu's Kavaraipettai. No fatalities were reported.

"Mainline train traffic was restored in record time after the Kavaraipettai incident with the DN line track fit at 7 am, OHE works were completed by 8 am, and signalling reconnection at 8.30 am, train no. 12842 passed the accident site at 9.08 am today," Southern Railways said in a statement.

Traffic on the up-line track was restored on Friday evening.

According to officials, the passengers of Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, who were stranded following the accident were transported by buses to Ponneri and Chennai Central by two EMU Specials in the early morning.

A high-level inquiry has been ordered by the Railway into the accident. (ANI)
