New Delhi [India], November 14 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh Government on choreographer-turned-director Remo D'Souza plea seeking quashing of a 2016 cheating case lodged against him.

However, the top court declined to grant any interim relief to D'Souza and refused to stay the proceedings against him.

A bench of justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued notice to the UP govt on Remo D'Souza plea and listed the matter next week for further hearing.

The top court was hearing Remo D'Souza plea challenging the Allahabad High Court order rejecting his plea seeking to quash the 2016 cheating case against him.

An FIR has been lodged against Remo D'Souza under Section 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after a complaint was levelled against him.

The complainant has alleged that Remo D'Souza has encouraged him to finance in his movie and assured him to return the double amount invested by him but later he failed to fulfil his promise. (ANI)
