The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been ranked as the best university for the past 9 years. JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi are in the second and third positions, respectively, in the university category. While IIT Madras bagged the first position as the top engineering institute, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay clinched the second and third positions, respectively. IIT-Madras has also been ranked as the best engineering college for the past nine years. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five.

In the NIRF 2024 Innovation category, IIT Bombay has secured the top position. IIT Madras follows in second place, while IIT Hyderabad holds the third position. This year, as many as 10,885 higher education institutions participated in the NIRF.

In the pharmacy category, Jamia Hamdard has climbed one spot from last year to secure the top position. The second position is held by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad. Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani has maintained its third position. JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, is placed in the fourth position. Anna University is placed in the top position among the state public universities. It is the new category in the ninth edition.
