Kolkata, November 3: A communal altercation broke out last Saturday in Narkeldanga, Kolkata causing significant damage to both private and public assets, including places of worship. Reacting to the incident, the NCW Member Archana Majumdar, wrote a letter to Governor, regarding the communal violence in Narkeldanga. In the letter, she alleged mistreatment by Senior Police Officers post-incident.

In her letter she wrote," To my disbelief, senior police officers, including OC Sanjay Mishra of Narkeldanga--who has previously been involved in a similar incident during the RG Kar vandalism on August 14--approached me and, instead of addressing the escalating situation, began to mistreat me. When I attempted to communicate with the officers regarding the severe threat to peace and public safety, they became confrontational. Rather than listening to the grievances of the affected residents, they proceeded to lathi-charge those around me, who had gathered in search of justice and support. The behaviour of the officers was disheartening and unexpected; female officers forcibly pushed and dragged me from the area, causing me to fall to the ground and sustain injuries. The aggressive approach taken by the police only served to further traumatize the victims, many of whom were already reeling from the violence and destruction inflicted upon their homes and places of worship"

Additionally, she asserted that when she visited the area to enquire about the violence, police began using tear gas and lathi charges on locals. West Bengal: Communal Violence Breaks Out Between Two Communities in Kolkata’s Mominpur, Over 30 Detained.

"When I inquired about the situation, residents informed me that, in the guise of "area domination," the police had begun a lathi charge and used tear gas on the very victims whose temples had been desecrated and homes ransacked. Women and other residents, who had gathered out of fear and desperation, were met with hostility instead of protection," she said. She further appealed for an immediate intervention into the matter from the governor. West Bengal: NIA Takes Over Probe in Kolkata’s Mominpur Violence.

Narkeldanga Violence

Meanwhile, on the Narkeldanga violence, West Bengal BJP also reacted through X post, "Lawlessness in Rajabazar and Narkeldanga: a blatant failure of @KolkataPolice. Yesterday's vandalism is just the latest chapter in a long-standing saga of unchecked crime, thriving under the so-called 'protection' of Narkeldanga PS. The stench of #Khalpul isn't the only rot here--it's time for a full cleanup."
