Kota (Rajasthan) Jun 22 (PTI) A special court here on Thursday sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment for murder.
The SC/ST court convicted Jugdish Gurjar for killing Ramesh Chand Meena over past enmity in a village here in July 2017, Hitesh Jain, special public prosecutor (SPP), SC/ST court, Kota, said.

A fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on Gurjar, Jain said.
The court, on a bailable warrant, also summoned three other accused, against whom the police did not file a chargesheet in the case but the court found adequate evidence of their involvement in the crime, he added.

On the day of the incident, the convict, along with his aides, had attacked Meena with an axe and other sharp weapons while he was returning from a function in Dungarli village in the Itawa area of this district, the SPP said.
The victim sustained critical injuries and succumbed during treatment the same night, Jain said.
On a complaint by the deceased's cousin, the police lodged a case against the accused on July 14, 2017, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST Act. Gurjar was arrested and was lodged in jail under judicial custody since then, he added.
During the investigation, the police filed a chargesheet against Gurjar and dropped the names of his co-accused, the SPP said.
The statements of 24 witnesses were recorded during the trial, he added.
