Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 12 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) is all set to get a boost in the economy with Grew Energy Private Limited announcing plans to set up a 3.2 GW module manufacturing facility at SIDCO Bhagthali in Kathua.

The three-stage fully backward integrated manufacturing unit will come up at an investment of Rs 4500 crore.

After completion, this plant will have an annual capacity of producing 3.2 GW (gigawatts) of high-efficiency modules and 2.8 GW of ingots, wafers and cells, Grew Energy said in a statement.

Spread over a total area of 80 acres, this facility will enable Grew to meet the future demands for the growing solar needs of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, other neighbouring states and the country at large, it said.

Vinay Thadani, CEO and Director, Grew Energy, said, "The Jammu and Kashmir government gave all the possible help to establish a big industry. It will also help in creating employment opportunities for the people."

"With the establishment of our Kathua facility and our existing 2.8 GW module manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Grew will achieve a total of 6 GW of manufacturing capacity for modules and 2.8 GW for solar components by FY25," he added.

Commissioner Secretary to Industries and Commerce Vikramjit Singh said, "This industry will give jobs to nearly 3000 unemployed youth as well as high-tech employment. New industrialists are interested in establishing new industries in this high-tech area of Kathua district." (ANI)
