New Delhi [India], September 18 (ANI): Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said on Wednesday that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi should provide Rs 1 crore compensation to the people who lost their lives due to the building collapse in the Bapa Nagar in Karol Bagh earlier today.

In a press statement, Kapoor said that Rs 5 lakh should also be provided to the people who were injured in the incident.

This came after three people lost their lives while 14 others sustained injuries in a house collapse incident that took place in the Karol Bagh area on Wednesday morning.

According to Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Services, the DFS received information about the building collapse in Bapa Nagar at 9.10 am.

"As soon as they received the information, the officials from the Delhi Fire Services, with 5 fire tenders, rushed to the site," Garg said.

In the statement, Kapoor expressed his grief over the building collapse in Bapa Nagar and stated that he had been constantly writing to the MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi to conduct a survey of dangerous buildings and to make "appropriate issuance" for repair work as well as to provide vacation notices to occupants in Delhi, especially in City Sadar Pahar Ganj and Western Extension Area Karol Bagh areas.

However, Kapoor stated that Oberoi has ignored his "repeated requests for surveys" and held her responsible for today's building collapse incident.

"Unfortunately the Mayor has ignored our repeated requests for surveys of dangerous buildings, and her callousness is responsible for today's fatal building collapse at Bapa Nagar," Kapoor said.

"In view of the heavy monsoon, I had been urging the mayor to order a proper survey of dangerous buildings and appropriate vacation or repair notices but she didn't take any action," he added. (ANI)
