Mumbai, Oct 5 (PTI) The Bombay High Court Friday said that it was taking a serious view of allegations that a BJP corporator from suburban Andheri and his supporters assaulted a civic official when he was taking action against an illegal hoarding in the area.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) filed an application Friday, seeking action against corporator Muraji Patel and his supporters for contempt of court as they "obstructed" officials implementing the high court's order on illegal hoardings.
A division bench of Justices A S Oka and M S Sonak said, "Political parties should issue notice to party members, asking them not to put up illegal hoardings.
"We will take this case seriously... such acts are liable of civil and criminal contempt," Justice Oka said.
The court said it would pass orders on the BMC's application on October 8.
The high court had earlier ordered removal of illegal hoardings in response to a PIL.
