Washington D.C. [USA], Sep 15 (ANI): At least four lives have been claimed by Hurricane Florence, that made landfall in North Carolina on Friday, Al Jazeera reported.

A woman and her child were killed after a tree fell on their house in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Wilmington Police Department confirmed the fatalities on Twitter.

Warning the residents not to go outdoors during the storm, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper wrote on Twitter, "This storm is going to continue its violent grind across our state for days. Be alert. To those in the storm path, if you can hear me - please stay sheltered in place. Do NOT go out into this storm."

Florence, which has now been downgraded to a tropical storm, flattened trees, crumbled roads and knocked out electricity over 100 shelters, Al Jazeera quoted the Governor's sources.

"We are expecting several more days of rain, and our focus is to get people away from immediate danger. We will then focus on helping people get their lives back together," Cooper added. (ANI)
