Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Feb 8 (ANI): Breaking of the thick ice sheets in the upper hills of Barang village in the tribal district of Kinnaur caused destruction in the apple gardens here in the wee hours of Friday. The incident took place at Sharmi in Barang village, where people have apple gardens and these gardens cost millions of rupees.Deputy Chief of Barang, Chandrapal Negi told the media that the two families of the village, namely Rasveer Singh and Jagat Singh, have faced massive loss of property due to the avalanche which destroyed their apple orchards. The total loss incurred by both the families’ amounts to approximately Rs 30 lakhs.Negi further in his statement noted that due to the glacier, visiting the region at this point of time would be dangerous.The Deputy Chief said that the owners of the garden undertook chances to visit the affected site of damage but due to the melting of the ice sheets they had to return back.The accurate figure of the damage would be known only after the weather becomes clear, Negi confirmed.
