Chandigarh, Apr 28 (PTI) The Haryana government has penalised the farmers who were found burning crop residue in the state, its Environment Minister Vipul Goel said today.
The process to prevent wheat residue burning has already been initiated. 35 cases have been reported in the state so far and a penalty of Rs 27,500 has been imposed on the erring farmers, said the minister in a statement.
The action is being taken by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Haryana, on the instructions of the National Green Tribunal, Delhi.
The department has so far noticed nine such cases in Jind, 13 in Sonepat, 11 in Palwal and one each in Panipat and Gurugram.
Goel said 1,147 cases of burning of wheat remains were reported last year.
