Chennai, Apr 17 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today dismissed as 'nonsense' and 'baseless', an allegation that he was being probed for sexual misconduct by the Union Home Ministry.

"It is nonsense, baseless, totally baseless," he told reporters at the Raj Bhavan here when asked about allegations by a political party that he was being "investigated" by the Home Ministry for alleged sexual misconduct.

A report in a daily in February this year had claimed that the Governor of a southern state was accused of sexual misconduct and the veracity of the allegation was being investigated by the Home Ministry.

The Ministry subsequently had said it was not aware of any such alleged sexual misconduct against any Governor.

On the opposition parties' request to him to facilitate a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Cauvery issue, he said "I tell you, today I had a telephonic conversation with Union Minister Gadkari about the Cauvery issue." he said and added he was pursuing it since it was 'close to his heart.'

Purohit said the Union Minister assured him that matters in this regard were being done by the Centre.

The Governor said there was no question of politics involved in it.

Purohit said the Union Minister apprised him that "something positive will be done in favour of the farmers and people of Tamil Nadu."

Asked if such a measure being worked out by the Centre could be construed as Cauvery Management Board or any other thing, he said it will be a "Board only."

To a question about opposition by political parties in Tamil Nadu against him holding review meetings in districts, he said 'review' was a word invented by the media and he did not hold such meetings.

He said his discussions were general in nature with officials and it was to get to know about the districts.

Against the backdrop of strong opposition to his district tours by DMK and other opposition parties, he said he only advised officials on aspects like transparency in work and time management.

"It is not review of official work....I am above politics," he said.

Purohit said he was 'satisfied to an extent' with the state government.

When it was pointed out that opposition had claimed he was not satisfied with the government, Purohit stated he had only said that "something needed to be done in the education sector" in the context of a Vice Chancellor being prosecuted for alleged corruption.

On opposition to appointment of a vice chancellor to Anna varsity from outside Tamil Nadu, he said he acted only as per the Constitution.

Asked what he would if opposition parties were to press for his resignation, he said "let them ask... let them do their job."

He said he invited journalists for a meeting since he has completed six months as Governor of Tamil Nadu.
