Jajpur (Odisha), Apr 13 (PTI) Seven members of a gang of highway robbers were arrested near the Dharmasala police station limits in the district, police said today.

"Acting on a tip-off, our joint police team reached the spot and managed to nab seven persons, while three others of the gang are on the run," Jajpur Superintendent of Police Charan Singh Meena said.

Police seized four bikes, 13 mobile phones, two country-made revolvers, live cartridges, cash and jewellery from their possession, he said.

The SP said the modus operandi of the gang was to target bikers on National Highway 16 and 200 and snatch valuables at gun point.

The other members of the gang would be held soon, the police officer said.

So far, they have admitted to have been involved in 28 robbery cases along highways in Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts, he said.

All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.
