Raipur, Jun 11 (PTI) Five Naxals were arrested from two districts in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division, police said today.

While three of them were apprehended today by a joint team of security forces from Dantewada district, the other two were nabbed in Sukma district yesterday, a senior police official told PTI.

The ultras arrested in Dantewada district were identified as Pojja Sodhi (24), Baman Muchaki (38) and Hirma alias Korrem Sodhi (37), he said.

The arrests were made by a combined squad of the CRPF and the local police from Kankipara village during patrolling, the official said.

In August 2016, Pojja Sodhi was injured in an encounter with security forces in Jihakorta-Kunna village of the district but managed to escape, he said.

Four Maoists were killed in that encounter.

Baman Muchaki and Korrem Sodhi were allegedly involved in abducting and killing a villager after holding a `janadalat' (kangaroo court) in the Kuakonda area on May 22, he said.

The duo was also involved in incidents of torching vehicles and machines engaged in road construction works in the area, he added.

The rebels apprehended in Sukma district were identifed as Madvi Handa (35) and Sodhi Ganga (42).

They were arrested from the forests of Elarmadgu village by a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the local police during a search operation, he said.

Handa and Ganga were allegedly part of a Maoist squad that had opened fire on a police team in April near Gompad village, the official added.

The Bastar division comprises the districts of Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Sukma and Kanker.
