Muzaffarnagar, Apr 24 (PTI) A court here today convicted five people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for abducting and murdering a 22-year-old woman, a lawyer said.

Additional District Sessions Judge Rajesh Bhardwaj also imposed a fine of Rs 8,500 each on the convicts after holding them guilty, he said.

According to government lawyer Yogesh Sharma, the woman was abducted and strangulated. Her body was found dumped in sugarcane fields in a village in Budhana Police Station area in June 2014.

The police registered a case against five people in this connection, he said.

In another case, the court convicted three people for murdering a 25-year-old man and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 each on the accused.

According to the prosecution, the man was stabbed to death after he opposed the eve teasing of his cousin.
