Jammu, Oct 15 (PTI) The first inter-services paragliding accuracy championship kicked off in Himachal Pradesh Monday, a defence spokesman said.
The three-day, first-of-its-kind championship is being conducted at Bir and Billing in Palampur, under the aegis of the Army Adventure Wing, the spokesman said.
The opening ceremony was presided over by General Officer Commanding, Dah division, Maj Gen A K Samantara, who welcomed the paragliding pilots from the three services, along with Assam Rifles and the BSF.
He said such an event would augment the efforts of the Army to provide an international level arena to the paragliding pilots to hone and showcase their flying skills.
The day's activities witnessed 23 paragliding pilots from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, BSF and Assam Rifles taking off from Billing and landing at Bir in a display of their spot landing and accuracy skills, the spokesman said.
He said the pilots were cheered by the large audience witnessing the competition.
