Chandigarh, May 16 (PTI) A fire broke out this evening near the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) complex located in Haryana's Panchkula district, about 20 kms from here, police said.
The fire broke out at around 7:30 pm, the police said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.
TBRL is an armament research lab under the department of Defence Research and Development. While the main laboratory is situated in Chandigarh, the firing range, spread over an area of 5000 acre, is located in Panchkula.
The fire is stated to have started from the bushes near the TBRL after which it spread in the thick vegetation. Thick smoke was billowing until late in the night, the police said.
"We have been told by officials of TBRL that they have managed to douse the flames," said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendar Kumar Meena.
Five fire tenders were rushed to the site to put out the fire. “But they used their own three fire tenders to douse the flames," said the DCP.
The exact details of how the fire broke out could only be given by the TBRL authorities, he said.
The police had put fire extinguishers in Yamunanagar and Ambala on standby to deal with any sort of emergency, the DCP said.
