Thane, Feb 25 (PTI) Former BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, who was defeated in the last year's Maharashtra Assembly polls from the Mira-Bhayander constituency here by rival Geeta Jain, has resigned from all party posts.
In a video message shared on social media on Monday, Mehta said he was taking political "sanyas" (retirement), but would continue doing his social works.
The former MLA said his deeds in the past had brought a "bad name" to the BJP, and he has now realised that he has no place in the party. Hence, he was quitting all party posts.
Mehta said he remained with the BJP in good as well as bad times and tried his best to work for the Mira-Bhayander township.
Thanking senior party leaders for giving him ample opportunity to serve the people, he said off late, things became difficult for him, hence he was saying goodbye.
Geeta Jain, who was in the BJP before the last year's state polls, was denied ticket by the party which reposed faith in the then sitting MLA Mehta.
Jain, who had earlier also served as mayor of Mira- Bhayander township, contested the polls as an independent and defeated Mehta by over 15,000 votes.
