Bollywood celebrities praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in successfully hosting the G20 Leaders' Summit in Delhi. The summit was attended by heads of state and delegates from across the world.
Several Bollywood celebrities heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his "leadership" after the successful conduct of the G20 Leaders' Summit in the national capital. The summit, hosted under India's presidency of the G20, was attended by heads of state and delegates from across the world. The event, for which the city was decked up over days, was held at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam at Delhi's Pragati Maidan. Taking to his official handle on X, formerly Twitter, actor Akshay Kumar commended PM Modi while sharing his "discussion video" at the G20 summit. Veteran actor Anupam Kher posted in Hindi, "Respected Prime Minister @narendramodi sir! A moment of honour for all Indians under your leadership and the hope for - One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Announcing the closing of the G20 summit on Sunday, PM Modi proposed a virtual session of the bloc in November to review the suggestions and proposals made at the premier forum for international economic cooperation.
“As you all know, India has the responsibility of G20 presidency till November 2023. In these two days, all of you gave a lot of suggestions and mooted proposals. It is our duty to see how progress could be achieved on these suggestions,” PM Modi said. "I propose that at the end of November, we hold a virtual session of the G20. We can review the topics decided in this summit in that virtual session. I hope you will connect with us during the virtual session. With this, I declare the conclusion of the G20 summit," he added.
Before declaring that the summit closed, PM Modi handed over the ceremonial gavel of the G20 presidency to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
"I congratulate Brazilian President and my friend Lula da Silva and hand over the gavel of (G20) Presidency," PM Modi said. While Indonesia held the G20 presidency last year, Brazil will assume the mantle after India. India took over the G20 presidency on December 1 last year at the summit in Bali and will continue to hold it till the end of November. The New Delhi Declaration was adopted by G20 leaders on Saturday, the first day of the summit.
Notably, throughout India’s presidency, raising the voice of Global South and the developing nations was at the forefront of New Delhi’s agenda.
India’s theme for the G20 Presidency was Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to ‘One Earth One Family One Future’. PM Modi stated that India's G20 Presidency has become a symbol of inclusion both inside and outside the country, adding that it became “People’s G20” and crores of Indians were connected with it.
A major and historic takeaway of India’s presidency of the G20 Summit was the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the grouping. The actor, on his 56th birthday, treated his fans to the first poster of his upcoming comedy Welcome To The Jungle. Apart from this, Akshay will also be seen in the Hindi remake of the Tamil drama Soorarai Pottru , which is all set to hit the theatres on February 16, 2024.
