Kinshasa [Congo], Dec 20 (ANI): The deadly Ebola outbreak in Congo has claimed 319 lives across the nation until now.
This is the world's second deadliest Ebola outbreak since the virus killed 11,000 people in West Africa in 2014.
Out of the deceased, 217 were confirmed to have suffered from Ebola - that causes fever, hemorrhaging and headaches - while there are 542 cases which have been confirmed in total in the nation's North Kivu province.
Armed conflict in the region has made matters worse, according to CNN who quoted the World Health Organisation (WHO). The organisation further claimed that "non-engagement" by local communities have worsened the conditions.
The province of North Kivu continues to be the hotbed of the outbreak. However, cases have been reported from Ituri province as well. (ANI)
