CPI Will Support BJP-IPFT Govt on Saving Teachers' Jobs
The Opposition CPI(M) today said it would support the ruling BJP-IPFT government if it makes efforts to save jobs of 10,323 school teachers in Tripura, who are now serving on ad hoc basis.
Agartala, May 28 (PTI) The Opposition CPI(M) today said it would support the ruling BJP-IPFT government if it makes efforts to save jobs of 10,323 school teachers in Tripura, who are now serving on ad hoc basis.
CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar, at a press conference, said, the party opposes the BJP ideologically, but would support them on the issue of saving jobs of the teachers, who served for years.
He said the BJP should fulfil its pre-poll promise and bring an ordinance to save jobs of 10,323 teachers.
"They (BJP) earlier announced that an ordinance would be brought to save the jobs. Let them bring ordinance in state Assembly or in Parliament.
"Place bills in the House or do anything which would help to save jobs of 10,323 teachers lawfully following the Supreme Court directive. We shall support them," Dhar told reporters.
The terminated 10,323 teachers include undergraduate, graduate and post graduate teachers who were recruited in several phases since 2010.
A verdict of the Supreme Court of India passed in March, 2017 said the recruitment rules followed for appointment of the teachers was faulty.
It had also said that their jobs would be terminated after December 31, 2017.
The erstwhile Left Front government decided to recruit them on ad hoc basis for six months from January 1 and the apex court allowed them. Their service tenure is slated to end on June 30.
Dhar also criticised Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for comparing his government's achievements with those of the erstwhile Left Front government.
"The chief minister has claimed to turn Tripura into a model state in the next 3 years. It will need him 2 years to inaugurate all the projects which were started by the Left Front government," he said.
The CPI(M) leader also alleged that over 4,250 people were attacked in post-poll violence in Tripura.
"FIRs were filed but not a single accused was arrested. Two party workers were killed but the real culprits were not arrested," he claimed.
Dhar also criticised the chief minister's move to provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the family of a youth who was killed in police custody in Kerala.
Last week, Deb had visited Chengannur in Alappuzha district in Kerala to join the campaign for a bypoll and announced the compensation.
Dhar alleged the chief minister has violated election code of conduct by granting the compensation.
