Ahmedabad, May 18 (PTI) A special CBI court here today rejected the bail pleas of Suresh Bhatnagar and his son Amit Bhatnagar, the promoters of Vadodara-based Diamond Power Infrastructure (DPIL), which is accused of duping banks of a whopping Rs 2,654 crore.
CBI judge C K Chauhan junked the bail application of Amit and the temporary bail plea of his father Suresh, who had sought relief on medical grounds.
The court had rejected the bail application of Suresh's second son, Sumit, earlier this month.
Amit pleaded in his application that no complaint of fraud had been received against the promoters, but the CBI registered an FIR on its own.
Suresh had sought temporary bail in the case, saying he was suffering from various age-related ailments.
Opposing their applications, the CBI had argued that its probe was at a crucial stage and their release could affect it.
The Bhatnagar trio was arrested last month from a hotel in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
It is alleged that the DPIL fraudulently availed credit facilities from a consortium of 11 banks, both public and private, from 2008 onwards, leaving behind outstanding debt of Rs 2,654.40 crore as of June 29, 2016.
The loans were declared non-performing assets in 2016-17.
