Kinshasa [DR Congo], Jan 6(ANI): The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has decided to postpone the announcement of Presidential election results to anytime later this week.
Voice of America quoted Head of CENI, Corneille Nangaa, as saying, "It is not possible to publish the results on Sunday. We are making progress, but we do not have everything yet."
Addressing a meeting on Sunday, Nangaa said the electoral commission has only received around 47 per cent of the ballots from different polling stations across Congo, especially due to a lack of proper road connectivity.
Nangaa also stated that manual counting and compilation of total votes was not feasible for the members of the electoral commission. CENI had even proposed to take help from the internet but somehow dropped the plan following allegations by the opposition that the commission was involved in fraudulent activities.
However, the Head of CENI did not confirm the exact date of announcing the results of the December elections.
Presidential elections took place in the Central African country on December 30 to elect a new successor of Joseph Kabila, who has held the Presidential office for a long time span of 17 years. (ANI)
