Hisar (Hr), Aug 18 (PTI) A fight between some law students and a family outside a restaurant here injured four people, police said today as the Akali Dal and the local bar association took sides over the clash.
Shromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal condemned the alleged attack on the Sikh family and urged Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar him to intervene in the matter.
The district bar association has demanded action against the family members.
The two groups fought after coming out of the restaurant on Thursday night, leading to injuries to both sides.
According to a complaint filed by the family, the law students misbehaved with them and hurt their religious sentiments.
But the four students accused the family of attacking them with sharp-edged weapons.
Counter FIRs were registered in the case, police said.
On a complaint filed by Akash, who is also a lawyer's son, police registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections relating to attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt against Joginder Singh, Tarnpreet Singh and two others.
On the family's complaint, police registered a case under sections relating to promoting enmity between different groups, voluntarily causing hurt and assault with the intent to outrage the modesty of a woman.
Both sides met the superintendent of police and demanded action.
The district bar association held a meeting today and demanded immediate arrests in the case.
It said if the if accused were not arrested by Sunday, the association will meet again the next day to decide its future course of action.
Sikh representatives from Hisar, Chandigarh and Delhi met here in gurdwara, demanding the cancellation of the attempt to murder case against the family.
They also wanted the SHO of the local police station sacked.
Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal issued a statement, asking Khattar to take appropriate action.
Badal said it was condemnable that a Sikh family which had been living in Haryana for 43 years was termed outsiders and attacked for protesting against "inappropriate and vulgar remarks" against the women members.
