Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Dec 8 (ANI): The Chhattisgarh Police on Friday suspended two guard commanders in connection with an incident where three men were detained after two of them were found with laptops outside an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) strong room in Polytechnic College, Jagdalpur.

The men had said they went there to check an outage reported in a Jio tower on campus

Police investigating the incident said on Thursday that the accused were employed with Jio. "It is being investigated if they have IDs. It is not possible to enter the strong room without IDs. We can say anything only after a probe."

However, Reliance Jio on Friday categorically refuted contentions that the men detained outside the strong room were their employees.

"We wish to clarify that the three men detained are not employees of Reliance Jio. On 6th December, upon an outage reported with one of our mobile tower located at the Mahila Polytechnic College Jagdalpur, we understand that our vendors - NDS (New Distinct Services) and Delta Power Solutions Pvt. Limited sent their technicians to the site to carry out regular maintenance work. We further understand that these technicians were solely carrying out their maintenance work near the tower and were not present in or near the strong room as reported," read a statement issued by the telecommunications major.

Last month, Chhattisgarh went to polls in two phases - on November 12 and 20- to elect members to 90 assembly seats.

Results of the polls will be declared on December 11. (ANI)
