"The BJP's fast is like "sau chuhe khaake billi haj ko challi" (claiming to be righteous and pious after committing sins). They disrupted the House and now they are blaming the opposition," Shetti said here while attending a meeting of party workers.
Shetti, a Lok Sabha MP from Hatkanangle constituency, asked, "I would like to know how many times the Speaker of the Lok Sabha or the Vice-President (ex-officio Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha) called a meeting of all party leaders to break the deadlock?"
He said that the BJP should learn the meaning of a fast by visiting places like Sevagram (where Gandhiji had his ashram) or Panvar (where Vinoba Bhave had his ashram), both in Wardha.
He demanded that the government call a session of Parliament before monsoon to address issues facing farmers.
Shetti said that his party would carry out a campaign between May 1-9 urging distressed farmers not to commit suicide.
"We will ask them to agitate against the government rather than committing suicide. We will start the campaign from farmer Dharma Patil's village," Shetti said.
Patil (84), a native of Dhule district, had consumed poison in Mantralaya on January 22 and had died, while undergoing treatment, on January 28.
He was unhappy with the compensation he had received after his land was acquired for a solar power project.
