Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) West Bengal governor K N Tripathi today met several intellectuals of the state and wished that literary works by noted Bengali intellectuals must be known to entire India.
Tripathi also met poets and writers of the state at the Raj Bhawan.
Tripathi, who is a distinguished poet himself, wished that contribution of bengali intellectuals and bengali literature in pre and post-independence period must be known in full to entire India, a press statement said.
He felt that language is a barrier but hoped that able translators take up the task of spreading this culture and tradition to the rest of India.
"He made the observation that students here receiving degrees and diplomas from his hand in university convocation invariably touch his and other elders' feet in accordance with our tradition. Nowadays, this is rare in other places of India," the statement said.
Those present in the meeting interacted with him and expressed interest in the writings of Tripathi.
