Jakarta [Indonesia], August 22 (ANI): Ace India gymnast Dipa Karmakar has been ruled out of the women's Artistic Team event of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games owing to a knee injury.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury during a practice session in the event.

Confirming the news, Karmakar's coach Bishweshwar Nandi said that though the injury is not serious, she would not be participating in the team event.

Speaking to ANI, Nandi said, "She got injured in the knee and she will not be playing team event. Doctors have suggested her rest but there is nothing serious about the injury."

Reflecting on the cause of the injury, the coach said that it happened because of practising on the hard surface for more than six times a day.

"It's because of practising on the hard surface more than 6 times in a day which resulted in injury," he said.

Karmakar, who had narrowly missed out on the bronze medal in the women's vault event of the 2016 Rio Olympics, will now participate in women's Balance Beam event of the Asian Games slated to be held on August 24. (ANI)
