Bengaluru [Karnataka], August 28 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday announced that Asian Games silver medalist Usha Rani, who had joined the police services as a constable, would be elevated to 'B' grade post.
Speaking during a felicitation programme for the player, the minister further stated that his government would consider relaxing existing rules to encourage more sportspersons towards joining the police force.
Rani, who was a part of the silver medal winning Kabaddi team during the ongoing prestigious quadrennial tournament, was also presented with a cheque of Rs 15 lakhs.
Lauding the efforts put in by the Kabaddi player, Parameshwara wished her all the best to win a gold medal in future.
The minister further assured that other medal winners from the state, Rohan Bopanna and Fouaad Mirza, would also be felicitated for their achievements.
While Bopanna, along with Divij Sharan had clinched gold in Men's Doubles Tennis event, Mirza had settled for silver in Equestrian Individual event.
India's total medal tally at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games stands at 45- eight gold, sixteen silver and twenty one bronze. (ANI)
