New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): Indian experienced boxer Pinki Jingra and Simranjeet Kaur on Monday entered the quarterfinals of the ongoing 10th International Boxing Association (AIBA) Women's World Boxing Championships here at the KD Jhadav Hall.

In what was a fast-paced 51 kg bout, Jingra got a unanimous decision when she beat Ebonie Alice Jones of England, despite the latter forcing the Indian on the back foot straightaway.

Opening with left jabs the Englishwoman traded combination punches and the Indian countered well to trade off some punches. As the game progressed into the second round, the first-timer came charging, equally aggressive, but it looked like both had their misses and scores.

However, in the third, a tiring Jones, who almost cornered the Indian with little room to maneuver, found Jingra managing to send some combination punches and a good right.

In the last 20 seconds, the relentless Indian piled on the agony which culminated in sending her into the quarters, where she will meet North Korea's Mi Choi Pang.

Reflecting on her win, Jingra said, "I knew I would win against her (Ebonie) because she was inexperienced. "I took my time but I had good counters which helped me win the judges' verdict," said the girl from Hisar, Haryana.

When asked about her next bout, the 28-year-old boxer said that she had watched her (Pang's) Asian Games videos and was prepared for her. "I have watched her (Pang) bouts and we will plan for tomorrow's quarterfinals," the Glasgow CWG bronze medal winner said.

Meanwhile, in the pre-quarters of the 64 kg category bout, Ludhiana boxer Simranjeet got yet another unanimous decision as she beat Megan Reid from Scotland. The debutant Punjab girl had an upper hand in all three rounds with an impressive display of fast and furious boxing.

The two Indians have now joined the six other campaigners including, Mary Kom, Manisha Moun, Sonia Chahal, Lovlina Borgohain, Bhagbati Kachari and Seema Poonia in the last eight stages of the prestigious tournament. (ANI)
