Kabul [Afghanistan], Aug 26 (ANI): Hanif Atmar stepped down as Afghanistan's National Security Adviser on Saturday, and was replaced by Hamdullah Mohib, who is currently serving as the Afghan Ambassador to the United States.
Atmar's resignation letter cited "serious differences over policies and approaches at the top level of government" as the reason for his resignation. He also claimed to have had differences in terms of "national unity, national consensus, peace and security political management, electoral affairs, good governance and regional affairs," TOLO News reported.
The report further noted that Atmar, who has served as a close aide to President Ashraf Ghani since 2014, resigned in order to prepare for next year's presidential elections. (ANI)
