New Delhi, Oct 17 (PTI) Days after a 50-year-old security guard of a cash van was killed after unidentified persons opened fire at the vehicle in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar, police have arrested seven men, including the employee of the firm ferrying the money.
The accused have been identified as Sunil (28), Mohit (24), Kapil (25), Sachin (40), Bijender (28), Sandeep (25) and Parvesh (27), police said.
The failed robbery bid took place on October 8 at DND flyover in Mayur Vihar. Several men in two cars intercepted the cash van carrying Rs 4.2 crore and opened fire, leading to the death of the armed guard present inside the cash van.
The accused Parvesh is an employee of the firm ferrying the money, while Sandeep is a former employee of the same firm, police said.
The accused were identified after scanning the CCTV footage. Raids were conducted across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to trace them, they said.
Based on a tip-off, a trap was laid on the night of October 16 and 17 on the Delhi-Noida link road where the accused persons arrived in the same car used for the offence and subsequently, they were apprehended, Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (east), said.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Sunil who was involved in several offences joined hands with his old friends Mohit and Kapil and formed a gang to execute robberies across Delhi and NCR. Later, they included Bijender and Sachin in the gang, he said.
Sachin gave them logistical assistance such as procuring of arms, getting fake number plates and suggesting places where they could go into hiding after commission of offences, while Bijender gave them ground support, the officer added.
