Caracas [Venezuela], August 6: Six suspects were detained for an alleged assassination attempt on Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro, confirmed Interior Minister Nestor Reverol.

Reverol revealed that one of the arrested suspects is accused of involvement in a 2017 attack on a military base, while another suspect was detained earlier in 2014 over involvement in anti-government protests, reported Sputnik.

Venezuela's Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez told Sputnik that the attackers were preparing the operation for around six months. Earlier, Maduro accused Colombia's far-right groups and outgoing president Juan Manuel Santos for what he called as an "attempt to assassinate him."
