New Delhi, May 21 (PTI) Four persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in an international drug syndicate and narcotics worth Rs 30 crore were recovered from them, the police said today.
Mephedrone, Methaqualone and tablets of various drugs such as Diazepam, Lorazepam, Nitrazepam, Alprazolam, which are known as 'Party Drugs' were seized from them, they said.
More than 6.5 lakh tablets of various drugs, two kilogram of Mephedrone and one kilogram of Methaqualone were recovered from them, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ashish (29), Asim Ali (23), Parveen Saini (32) and Rajender (26).
The members of this syndicate used to collect drug tablets and contraband sourced from various parts of India and send those to their clients in foreign countries including the UK, the USA, the UAE and other Middle-East countries, he said.
The kingpins of the gang has been identified as Baljeet Singh alias Balli and Gajender Singh Rathore alias Gajju, who are currently in London. Saini, who was operating from Delhi, used to look after the entire network of this drug cartel in India, the DCP said.
For the last few months, the Special Cell of Delhi Police was working on the drug cartel involved in supply of tablets and synthetic drugs abroad.
On May 18, information was received that Saini will book a consignment of various types of drug tablets and synthetic drugs to London from Custom Cargo at Indira Gandhi International Airport by hiding those in parcels miscellaneous goods meant exported to the UK, the DCP said.
Sharma, who is working as Custom House Agent in custom cargo of IGI Airport, was supposed to prepare the custom clearance documents for these goods.
The police also learnt that Sharma was to manage clearance of this consignment with help of some persons deputed on X-ray machines of cargo used for checking of packets. Saini had contacts with the people deputed on X-ray machines of customs cargo, the officer said.
He said, around 9.30 pm it was noticed that two persons, later identified as Asim Ali and Sharma, were near a tempo in the parking area and some cartons, meant to be sent to London, were unloaded from the vehicle.
Around 3.5 lakh drug tablets, one kg Methaqualone and 900 gms of Mephedrone was recovered from the cartons, the DCP said, adding Parveen Saini and his associate Rajender were arrested on May 20 and 1.095 kg of Mephedrone and more than three lakh drug tablets of Diazepam and Alprazolam were seized.
