Noida (UP), Oct 23 (PTI) As many as 29 alleged drug traffickers have been arrested during a three-day operation in Gautam Buddh Nagar by police, officials said Tuesday.
During the anti-drug operation that was launched on October 20 and ended on October 22, over 30 kg of cannabis worth lakhs of rupees was seized, police said.
"27.4 kg ganja, 1.46 kg charas, 2 kg doda and 190 tablets of intoxicants were seized during the operation across the Gautam Buddh Nagar district," they said.
Twenty nine people involved in illegal trade and sale of drugs and other intoxicants were arrested during the drive, police added.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said the drive was launched to target the key factor -- drugs -- that was the root cause of several petty crimes like thefts and snatchings.
"During interrogation of snatchers and petty criminals, drugs were found to be one of the significant reasons. So, a targeted anti-drugs drive was launched and similar action would be continued at regular intervals," Sharma told PTI.
All those arrested have been jailed following legal procedures and they were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, police said.
