Amethi (UP), May 23 (PTI) Two circle officers of police were transferred within the district today, police sources said.

Binu Singh will be the new circle officer of Gauriganj, the public relations officer (PRO) of Amethi Superintendent of Police (SP) K K Gehlot said, adding that she will also hold the additional charge of the Amethi circle.

Singh was earlier posted in Tiloi. P K Rai has been sent to Tiloi in her place.

A police team, led by Singh, had stopped three trucks at Tiloi last night for overloading and refused to let them go, despite alleged pressure from BJP leaders.

Congress workers, led by Yogendra Mishra, the district chief of the party, staged a protest at Tiloi today against the "transfer of an honest circle officer (Singh)".
