Jaipur, September 16: The Congress government in Rajasthan, led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, is planning to reserve 75 percent posts in private sectors for locals. According to reports, a crucial meeting on 75 percent reservation for locals in private sectors will be held on September 19. The government has sought opinions from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), state's Labour Department and Skill Employment And Entrepreneurship (RSLDC) in this regard.

Representatives of the CII, Labour Department and RSLDC will attend the September 19 meeting. If the proposal for 75 percent reservation for locals in jobs in private sectors gets passed by the Assembly, Rajasthan won't be the first state to do so. Andhra Pradesh became the first state to reserve 75 percent of jobs for local youths in various private sectors after passing the Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019 in July.

Under the Act, 75 percent jobs in industrial units, factories, joint ventures and projects set up under public-private partnership mode have been reserved for locals. The Act also clarifies that private sector firms mentioned above will have to fill 75 percent vacancy with local employees irrespective of whether or not they get financial or other help from the government. Companies listed in the first schedule of the Factories Act have been exempted from the Act.

The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh is also mulling to enact a similar law. Chief Minister Kamal Nath had in August said that his government would bring a law to reserve 70 percent jobs in industrial units for people from the state. "We are going to enact a law to reserve 70 per cent jobs for people of Madhya Pradesh in the state's industrial units," Nath had said.
