Chandigarh, October 24: A tight contest was seen between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in Haryana after initial rounds of counting of votes for the assembly elections results. Of 90 seats in Haryana assembly, the BJP was leading on 44 seats, whereas the Congress was ahead in 32 constituencies, according to numbers available till 9:15 am. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his predecessor Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress are among those who were leading from their respective constituencies. The counting of votes for the Haryana assembly elections results began at 8 am today. Polling for 90 Vidhan Sabha seats was held on October 21. While the BJP and the Congress contested on all 90 seats, the BSP is in the fray on 87 seats, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is contesting on 81 seats. There are some 375 candidates contesting as independents. In the 2014 Haryana assembly election, the BJP won 47 seats in the 90 member assembly, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 19 seats, the Congress won 15 seats while others won 9 seats.
